Conveners: Franz Michael Meyer1 and Thomas Oberthür2
Session language: English
Topic:
The session on Raw Materials will cover aspects of the origin, anatomy, and inventory of metallic as well as non-metallic mineral deposits. It will be the platform for the presentation and dissemination of research focussing on this wide range of economic geology-related topics. We seek presentations that provide insights into ore-forming processes from ore petrology, geochemistry as well as radiogenic and stable isotope investigations. We also invite contributions to new developments in the quantitative modelling of hydrologic and chemical processes pertinent to land-based and seafloor hydrothermal systems. Research into sulfide and oxide mineralogy and geochemistry is also welcomed as it is central to many aspects of ore deposit studies, mineral technology, and the environmental impact of resource exploitation. This symposium will explore recent advances in both fundamental and applied studies across a wide range of areas involved in the formation of ore and industrial mineral deposits as well as the application of mineralogical and geochemical methods to exploration, ore dressing, and waste management. The session on Raw Materials will also afford participants an opportunity to exchange ideas, open up collaborative ventures, and develop partnerships.
